Description
You’ve got the baler cylinder apart, the seals are on order, and the internal retaining ring came out bent, nicked, or crusted with rust. Don’t put that ring back in. It’s the only thing holding the gland and the entire seal package inside the cylinder tube — under full system pressure. A damaged ring can walk out of its groove, and when it lets go, the gland comes with it.
This is the replacement ring for Marathon 6 in. baler cylinders, including the cylinders our Marathon 040261 / 043893 cylinder seal kit covers. If you’re buying that kit and your ring looks rough, add this to the order and do the whole job once.
What It Does
The ring seats in a groove machined inside the head end of the cylinder tube and locks the gland in place from coming out. Install the new seals, slide the gland home, seat the ring fully in its groove, and the cylinder is back to holding pressure the way it should.
When to Replace It
Replace the ring if:
- Stretched or bent from removal
- Nicked or gouged or broke at the notches
- Corroded or pitted
